Failing at the non-essentials

On February 11, 2014 I put a voice recording on my phone.  As I listen to it now, I can hear myself repeatedly coughing (I was recuperating from pneumonia) and fighting tears.

“I’m struggling with a challenging job situation and Solomon is eight homework assignments behind and I’m too tired to pray at dinnertime.”

‘I’m tired.  It’s your turn to pray’.

‘God, thank you for this world that you created and thank you for the universe that you made . . . ’

I may be failing as a public school mom, but at least as my kid is learning science and about the stars, he’s aware of the important things – that God created it and he’s grateful that God made it so wonderful.

What could be more important than that?
